Great Bear Snow Shed

Coquihalla Highway, BC


The most impressive structure on the Coquihalla Highway, the Great Bear Snow Shed is locate in one of the highest snowfall regions of the Province. with a total length of 920 feet (280 metres), and 36 foot (11 metre) high portal walls, the structure shelters 6 lanes of freeway traffic from the threat of snow avalanches. Prestressed concrete was used extensively on this project, far from any urban center. CWMM utilized a wealth of i-house past experience designing avalanche structures to produce a sleek and cost-effective design.
